The first glimpse of "Terminator Salvation" and "Avatar" star Sam Worthington as Perseus in Louis Leterrier's remake of "Clash of the Titans" has now reached the Internet for all the world to see. The movie, which began shooting about a month ago in Europe, will re-craft director Desmond Davis's 1981 classic starring Laurence Olivier. Leterrier's remake is no slouch on the casting front either; joining Worthington are Liam Neeson as Zeus and Ralph Fiennes as Hades.
The new Worthington shot, which shows off Perseus in his battle gear, comes out of this month's Empire according to /Film. There is also a foreboding hand in the foreground, perhaps that of Medusa, one of the iconic villains of Greek mythology that the hero fights in his quest to save his family and keep Hades from dethroning Zeus.
"Clash of the Titans" rounds out a year of big action roles for Worthington, whom Kurt Loder recently praised as "effortlessly charismatic" in his "Terminator Salvation" review.
Tagged for a March 2010 release date, Letterier's team has the daunting task of re-imagining all of the story's creatures, such as Medusa and the Cyclops, that were so famously rendered in the original using stop-motion techniques by Ray Harryhausen's workshop. Now that we know what the people are going to look like, the next big question is going to be what the "Clash of the Titans" redux does to top Harryhausen's memorable designs.
Do you think Sam Worthington has what it takes to fill Perseus' boots for the "Clash of the Titans" remake? What do you think of the look for the new film? Share your reactions in the comment section below!
