“We now have three very successful franchises, but we also want to tell new stories,” DWA co-prexy of production Bill Damaschke told Variety. “Now, in addition to one or two sequels a year, we’ll have a new original as well.”
One of those new originals will be “Oobermind” (previously titled “Master Mind”), a story from Ben Stiller’s production company that will feature Downey as a supervillain who pines for the good old days after finally defeating his arch nemesis. Fey will join him in the cast.
DWA also confirmed that Jack Black and Dustin Hoffman will return to their roles for “Kung Fu Panda: The Kaboom of Doom,” due out in theaters June 3, 2011.
In other franchise news, a fourth “Shrek” installment, currently titled “Shrek Forever After,” will arrive in 2010, with a “Puss in Boots” spin-off tagged for 2012. And no, you “Madagascar” fans weren’t forgotten. Another sequel for that series will arrive in 2011.
The studio is currently considering three candidate for a Fall 2012 release date, one of which is “Truckers,” based on writer Terry Pratchett’s “The Bromeliad Trilogy.”
