Ignoring The Disclaimer, Sofia Coppola Will Play With A Jackass

Chris PontiusThis is definitely going to end up being the strangest news I hear this week, if not this month or this year. Sofia Coppola, writer/director/producer of "Lost in Translation" and "Marie Antoinette," is deep in the prep stages for her next effort, entitled "Somewhere." Now here's where things get weird: joining the already confirmed Stephen Dorff and Elle Fanning in the cast is none other than "Jackass" and "Wildboyz" alum Chris Pontius.

Whaaa...? The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Pontius will join the cast of Coppola's "Somewhere" as the best friend of Stephen Dorff's protagonist. Dorff plays a popular Hollywood actor who is forced to re-examine his public persona when his daughter (Elle Fanning) shows up for a surprise visit. Coppola's "Lost in Translation" partner Focus Features will release the film, which is currently planned for a 2010 release.

I've always had a fondness for the antics of Pontius and Steve-O on MTV's "Wildboyz." Really! I'm not just saying that because of where my paycheck comes from! Pontius is an odd fellow, and very funny. I can't say I've ever imagined a scenario that would place him in a "serious" acting role, but I remain open-minded. If you've never before known the joys of Pontius, here's a little taste.
