Keanu Reeves Does The Monster Mash For New 'Jekyll' Adaptation

Keanu ReevesEveryone knows Robert Louis Stevenson's "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde." Even if you've never read it, you know the story purely from the way the names have become shorthand for a split personality. So, when you think of actors who can embody a split between ferocious and mild, you probably think of Russell Crowe or Christian Bale, perhaps even Hugh Jackman or Brad Pitt. You would probably not think of the laconic Keanu Reeves. But according to The Hollywood Reporter, that's who is taking on the role of the man with two personalities.

Reeves will star in Universal's new adaptation "Jekyll," which is being directed by Nicolas Winding Refn ("Bronson") and boasts a script by Justin Haythe ("Revolutionary Road"). The plot details are being kept under tight wraps, but it certainly has an pretty impressive team behind the camera. Refn has become an incredibly buzzed-about director thanks to "Bronson."

What we do know is that this adaptation won't be a traditional take -- that's being handled for Universal by Guillermo del Toro, whose love of gothic horror knows no bounds, and who wants to tackle a faithful adaptation of Stevenson's story. However, given the multitude of projects that he's attached to, the studio is looking at a delay of more than five years. That leaves plenty of time for a more experimental Reeves version ... but what exactly will it be like?

Readers, do you see Keanu Reeves as Jekyll or Hyde? Does he have a maniac ready to come out of his calm exterior? Or will you hold out for del Toro's version?
