As odd as it seems to remake Mickey Mouse, “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice” has rounded out its cast. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Alfred Molina (the man of a million roles, but you probably know him best as Doc Ock in “Spider-Man 2”) is set to play the evil magician Horvath.
Yep — there’s two magicians in this, which raises the stakes a little higher than some brooms.
The modern day story centers on an average college student (Baruchel) who reluctantly goes to work for a sorcerer named Balthazar Blake. (Working for a sorcerer seems a lot more fun than a workstudy job, but what do I know?) Blake gives him a crash course in wizardry, potions, and sorcery in order to prepare him for a battle against the dark forces who threaten modern Manhattan. Teresa Palmer will play Baruchel’s love interest.
Directed by Jon Turteltaub (“National Treasure: Book of Secrets”) and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, the film begins shooting this month in New York.
MTV readers, what do you think of a live action “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice”? Could it be another “Enchanted” or “Pirates of the Caribbean”? Or is it destined to be another “The Country Bears”?
