Brendan Fraser's career has gone in a decidedly different route than we all expected it to. Once a man who struck a balance between Oscar nominated films like "Gods and Monsters" and popcorn fare like "The Mummy," Fraser now seems to enjoy just the popcorn half of the equation. Variety reports that Fraser is set to star in "Furry Vengeance" for Summit Entertainment, a family comedy directed by Roger Kumble ("College Road Trip").
Fraser will play a real estate developer whose new suburban development spills into some pristine Oregon wilderness, pitting him against a band of angry critters. The film will be live action, but expect the wildlife to be some mix of CG and real. The film will begin production in early summer.
Maybe I shouldn't be so hard on Fraser -- after all, he will soon be co-starring with Harrison Ford in the medical drama "Crowley." Perhaps he is looking to strike that delicate balance between Oscar quality and popcorn films again. It would be kind of cool to have him back on the A-list again, wouldn't it?
