Red Carpet Wrap: Hathaway, Hudson Fashion Battle At 'Bride Wars' Premiere

The happy couple had impeccable fashion taste at the first big New York movie premiere of 2009: "Bride Wars."

Anne Hathaway appeared sleek and sophisticated in her tuxedo jacket and black skinny pants, while Kate Hudson donned an elegant white gown decorated with intricate dark embroidery.

Clearly no accident, what I want to know is if the girls fought over who would play the groom and who would play the blushing bride? (Check out the couple's wedding-ready attire after the jump.)

Hathaway had shown a definite preference for decoulage-bearing, strapless couture on the red carpet in 2008 (check her out the "Get Smart" world premiere in June), and generally has a very graceful fashion sense. This more masculine ensemble, while still elegant, is a fun departure from the brunette's closet of dresses.

Hudson -- on the other hand -- always keeps us guessing when it comes to fashion. In February at the Elle Style Awards, she wore a tux-inspired jacket over a long white gown, which would have had me assuming she had pants-wearing potential in this red carpet relationship. Always fun and flirty in her style, her look last night did not disappoint.
