Charlize Theron always gets the best costars, doesn't she? In the last year, she's starred or signed on opposite Will Smith, Viggo Mortensen, and Mark Wahlberg. Now it looks like she can add Tom Cruise to the glittering list. According to Variety, she's in talks to star opposite Cruise in "The Tourist," Bharat Nalluri's remake of the 2005 French thriller "Anthony Zimmer."
Theron will play a female Interpol agent who uses an American tourist in an attempt to discover the location of an elusive criminal, with whom she once had a torrid love affair. It's not clear whether Cruise will play the tourist, or the criminal -- but considering which role is in the title, we can probably guess who he is playing.
Compared to the original "Anthony Zimmer," Theron's role has been given an extra edge of cool as an Interpol agent, as the French heroine was merely the criminal's girlfriend. You can't expect Aeon Flux to play less than an Interpol agent, especially if she's up against Cruise. It should be a lot of fun to see her tackle another action role, and give him the runaround.
The movie is expected to begin shooting in March, and is waiting for a final script polish by Christopher McQuarrie, who cowrote Cruise's upcoming movie "Valkyrie."
