Justin Long Confirms 'Chipmunks' Sequel, But Will The Chipettes Be In It?

One of the reasons why I love our Movies Blog is because it allows us to post news fast. Another reason is because every now and then we’ll run a story on a movie, and its fans will go crazy with comments, making reporters like myself realize that you guys want us to get you more information.

With that in mind, when I recently caught up with the very cool, very funny Justin Long, a little voice in the back of my head said: “Chipmunks! There were 354 comments on the last article about the ‘Chipmunks’ sequel!” And so, I made sure when we were done discussing his Comic-Con-buzz-building flick “Drag Me to Hell” that I attempted the difficult transition from a hardcore horror flick to whether we’d ever see the sequel to a family-friendly movie detailing three rodents who sing about hula hoops.

“Oh yeah,” was the response of Long, who is the voice of the rebellious Alvin. “They’re doing it.”

The first film shocked Hollywood by making $217 million at the box office, making it the highest-grossing talking animal/ live-action cartoon adaptation of all time. Now the green light has been turned on for Long, Jesse McCartney and Matthew Gray Gubler to return to the voiceover booth — and to put the harried Jason Lee back in front of the camera as Dave Seville.

“I just got that call,” Long revealed. “So that’s going to be fun.”

And, as at least 354 of you know, franchise producers Janice Karman and Ross Bagdasarian Jr. have expressed their interest in pairing the boys with Brittany, Jeanette and Eleanor, otherwise known as the Chipettes. So, is Alvin excited about the idea of getting himself a girlfriend?

“I don’t know,” Long shrugged, saying he expects to learn more soon. “I don’t know if the Chipettes are in it.”

This brings us to another thing I love about the blog: The chance for fans to speak out in a forum that Hollywood people read every day, and has already shaped some big movie decisions. So what say you, Chipmunk fans? If you want to see some Chipettes, now is the time to speak up!
