Our Guest Blogger Reflects On Her Star-Filled MTV Movie Awards Experience

Our guest blogger Laura Culpepper was selected to help us cover the Movie Awards and all its preshow events (and giving her some surprises as well). She was a great addition to the team, and with the 2008 show concluded, we asked her to reflect on her last day and what the experience meant.

Well, it’s all over now. This afternoon I will be flying back to Alabama to resume my very uneventful life until the fall. It will be a bit strange not seeing celebrities everyday or hanging out with everybody here at MTV News, but all good things must come to an end.

I started the day yesterday pretty early to once again stand-in on some rehearsals for the preshow. After that it was a bit of a “hurry up and wait” situation, but once the stars started walking it went by extremely fast.

Originally I was going to be in the bleachers with all of the fans, but I ended up with Larry Carroll on the gold carpet to help out with the interviews.

I found it really interesting that each star walked with their publicist, manager, or agent. They make it look like they came alone, but in reality some of them had full-on entourages to escort them all the way down. This was probably the most stressful part of the evening for me since I was trying to do about a million things at the same time, and it was all going so fast. It was overwhelming to be surrounded by so many celebrities at the same time, but really cool at the same time to see them all in person.

One thing I really enjoyed was meeting Kristen Stewart and seeing Robert Pattinson again. Kristen was very nice, although I only got to talk to her for a second. And of course Rob was nice as could be.

The MTV Movie Awards itself was pretty fun. The visual aspect of everything was pretty awesome: lots of lights and cool effects. During commercials all of the stars would get up to chat and someone would go through the crowd and toss t-shirts to lucky audience members. I think the two biggest highlights of the show for me were seeing Coldplay live and Adam Sandler’s acceptance song for the Generation Award. Seeing Tom Cruise in person was an interesting experience as well. One thing that really surprised me was that “Step Up 2 The Streets” won Best Kiss. I was expecting “Juno” or “Transformers” to win that one (check out the entire Movie Awards winners list here!).

I got lucky and was given a ticket to the after-party, where I spotted stars such as Nikki Blonsky, the cast of “The Hills,” Christian Siriano, Robert Pattinson, Cam Gigandet, Seth Rogen, and Jonah Hill, among others. The party was rockin’ with some pretty good music, food, and ambiance. It was a very relaxed atmosphere and everyone just mingled amongst themselves.

Well, this officially wraps up my work here at MTV News as the guest blogger. I’ve truly had the time of my life and have been given so many opportunities that never would have been possible otherwise. This will definitely go in the books as one of the best weeks ever. I hope you have all enjoyed reading (and watching) everything I’ve done and that you have a great rest of the summer.
