Dog-Walking Tyson Ritter Brings Us The Scoop On 'House Bunny'

Over the years, I've been fortunate enough to interview some very funny people, many of whom (Sandler, Ferrell, Jack Black) we'll see Sunday at the MTV Movie Awards. But I can honestly say it's been a long time since anyone has made me laugh so hard as All-American Rejects singer Tyson Ritter.

"I did this hike for the first time like a month ago," the affable rock star grinned. "And I coughed up a f---ing lung."

The concept was simple: We'd meet Ritter at L.A.'s Runyon Canyon, a beautiful hiking area where Hollywood's best-looking people go to stay in shape and get each other's phone numbers. The 24-year-old is making his acting debut in the August flick "The House Bunny" (watch an exclusive clip from "The House Bunny" here), and what better way to get in movie-star shape than to take his dog for a healthy hike?

"I've gotta be out there, walking the red carpet, looking good," he explained.

"This isn't even my dog; it's a rent-a-dog" he grinned, introducing the MTV News cameras to his companion Cyrus. "But that's what us Hollywood celebs can do. We can walk to the front of the entrance to a canyon, and have a magical dog appear."

With the temperature nearing 100 degrees, we hit the trail.

"I don't even know what this thing is," he remarked, inspecting a pouch on Cyrus' leash. "Oh, it's a poop bag thing. I'm not doing that. I don't touch the poop -- we have people for that here in Hollywood-celebutante-land."

Unfortunately for Tyson, most of the people walking past us were men -- very buff men, in fact, often without shirts on.

"Why didn't I go shirtless? I wanna give the ladies a fighting chance out here," he said; spotting a random girl walking past, he pointed at her and added: "I don't want you to fall in love!"

Seeing an older gentleman approaching us, his imagination took off. "I look for really famous people when I walk. This guy here? Sir Martin Scorcese!" he marveled, nodding to the power-walker. "How you doing, man? I love 'The Departed'!"

Then, the magic happened: Cyrus decided that it was time to go, and Tyson wasn't moving him one more inch.

"Oh...oh...OH NO!" he screamed, running behind the squatting dog. "And it's huge! So huge!"

In the course of my line of work, I've watched a lot of famous people urge MTV viewers to see their new movie, buy their album or whatever. But I can honestly say that this is the first time I've ever witnessed someone attempting to plug their movie while simultaneously scooping dog poop!

"Are we really doing this? You'd better wallow in your shame!" Ritter sighed, pulling out a poop bag and admonishing the dog.

"So basically, there's a movie coming out starring Katharine McPhee, Rumer Willis and Anna Faris, and it's called 'House Bunny,' " he gagged, scooping, pitching and grinning with remarkable skill. "It's about a chick who goes to the Playboy Mansion and...Oh God! I can't even get it all in one handful!"

Staring at Cyrus disapprovingly, he said: "Look at the smile on your face!"

Then, turning back to the camera like a pro, he added: "And you'll be smiling too, when you go see 'House Bunny' in theaters August 22."

Some might say that Tyson Ritter is about to appear in his first film; when it comes to bringing the laughter, however, this rocker is already well-trained -- even if his dog is not.

The MTV Movie Awards will air live on MTV on Sunday at 8 p.m. ET, with MTV News' "Coming Attractions" preshow kicking the evening off at 7:30 p.m. ET! Meanwhile, stay tuned to the MTV Movies Blog and MovieAwards.MTV.com.
