EXCLUSIVE: Rob Corddry Lands Role Of Press Secretary Ari Fleischer In Oliver Stone’s ‘W’

He’s reported the “news” on “The Daily Show,” and now Rob Corddry will be doing the same from behind a White House podium. MTV News has confirmed exclusively that the actor/comedian has been cast as press secretary Ari Fleischer in Oliver Stone’s presidential biopic, “W.”

Corddry joins a laundry list of talent already attached to the project, including Josh Brolin and Elizabeth Banks as the president and first lady Laura Bush, James Cromwell and Ellen Burstyn as George’s parents, former President George H.W. Bush and wife Barbara, and Thandie Newton as Condoleezza Rice.

Serving as the administration’s official spokesman from 2001 to 2003, Fleischer was propelled into the national spotlight after the terrorist attacks of September 11, and the ensuing invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq. Recognized as much for his glasses and baldness as he was for his passionate and sometimes argumentative defense of his boss, Fleischer would also find himself linked to the CIA scandal involving Valerie Plame — itself a current Hollywood initiative.

As would be expected, Stone has already attracted controversy for the pic, with Bush biographers offering a mixed reaction to a leaked script. Additional casting — including that of master strategist Karl Rove — is expected in the coming weeks as the film preps for an April 21 start date.
