Sigourney Weaver’s ‘Avatar’ Character Mirrors James Cameron, Actress Says

Ever since James Cameron announced that “Avatar” would be his next project, fans of the director have been feverishly searching for hints and clues to the film’s plot.

Perhaps this whole time we’ve been looking in the wrong place.

Meaning that maybe instead of looking at the director’s previous sci-fi epics, we should be looking at the director himself, suggested co-star Sigourney Weaver.

“It’s a big secret,” Weaver teased of the character she plays. “Jim wrote such a terrific part for me, and it has a lot of different aspects, [but] it reminded me of him, actually – very driven and very idealistic. So it was a lot of fun.”

Weaver, who previously worked with Cameron on the classic “Aliens,” told MTV News that she “finished filming.” But the movie, of course, won’t come out for another two years. That’s because of the massive efforts Cameron is employing in post-production, techniques that will make the finished product look like “stuff you’ve never imagined,” he recently told AICN.

It’s a far cry from the way Weaver’s most recent director works, the actress laughed, referring to “Be Kind, Rewind” helmer Michel Gondry.

“Night and day,” she joked of the difference. “But I think they’d get along, I think they’d respect each other’s work. Jim invents the cameras, the guns, he does the sets. You know he’s very complete. And I think Michel is more likely to just let things happen.”
