Reubens Still Has Grand Plans For ‘Pee-Wee’s Playhouse’ DVDs

Pee-wee fans rejoice. We are on the brink of another Pee-wee saturated era of entertainment. At least that’s what Paul Reubens is hoping. I got the rare chance to chat with Reubens about his plans for two Pee-wee Herman films last week. If you’re curious at all about what misadventures Pee-wee is going to find in the 21st century, be sure to check out the Reubens interview here.

Besides the films, I also asked Reubens about DVD plans for “Pee-wee’s Playhouse.” Though released in their entirety a few years back (albeit in a bare-bones fashion), there was talk that special editions were in the works. Reubens said that’s still the plan.

“I have tons of stuff for the special materials, outtakes and cut scenes and people’s recollections. Designs and drawings. We had a storyboard artist who did really funny drawings of everybody,” Reubens said. He also said he’d like to create a documentary about the show especially for the DVD. As for why we haven’t seen the extras laden DVDs yet, Reubens put some of the blame on himself. “It’s all waiting for me to go through the stuff and find all the special material,” he said.
