Believe it or not, it’s been a whole two years since singer/actress/style icon Zendaya released her self-titled debut album. And while these past two years have given us plenty of Z-related moments to obsess over — like her flawless new Barbie doll and her inspirational anti-Photoshop messages — we’re admittedly pretty thirsty for some new tunes to dance to, à la “Replay.”
Thankfully, Z’s moving full speed ahead on her forthcoming sophomore album, and she’s got the Snapchat snippets to prove it. Back in July, she previewed a collaboration with superstar producer Timbaland in a short Instagram teaser, and now she’s back with another 10-second taste of a new track.
On Sunday night (Nov. 8), the 19-year-old posted a vid of her lip-syncing to an R&B song with a quintessentially Timbaland-flavored beat. Judging by the lyrics (“You got that allibi, you slick, don’t tell me that your phone died”), it sounds like this one finds Z putting a cheating boyfriend in his place.
Just a couple weeks ago, Zendaya appeared on a radio station in Duabi and premiered a short snippet of another song called “Close Up” that she said was also produced by Timbaland. She further revealed we can expect her forthcoming album sometime in early 2016.
Zendaya previously told MTV News about her new material, “I would say it’s the new wave of R&B. It’s where I think it should be going, or it should be headed; it’s very old-school vibe, but it’s a new age version.”
