The gang is back for Season 4 in April!
When we last left Jenna Hamilton, she and the "Awkward" crew were wrapping up junior year at Palos Hills High School, which was a doozy for all involved. Over the span of Season 3, Jenna and Matty McKibben had called it quits after she'd cheated on him with Collin, thus setting off a bad-girl phase filled with pot-smoking and parental tough love.
Jenna continued to spiral further and further away from the girl she was and the woman she wanted to be, yet, on the finale, it seemed as if she was finally getting back on the right path. So, will she stay there? We'll have to wait until Season 4 premieres April 15th to find out, but in the meantime, show runners Chris Alberghini and Mike Chessler spilled some juicy details to the good people at BuzzFeed.
"You start going out more in senior year, so we blow out the world a lot more," said Mike, who, alongside Chris, has previously written for "So NoTORIous" and "90210." "We go out on the town. We go on college visits. Jenna might meet a cute college guy and enjoy a relationship with an older man." (All together now: WHAT'S THE WORST THING THAT COULD HAPPEN?)
Will Jatty find their way back to each other? Can Jakara make things work?
A few new faces will present themselves in the upcoming episodes, including an African exchange student, but as for what's in store for your old favorites:
Jake and Tamara: "It’s a relationship that has worked, but, without giving anything away, this is a time when you start reevaluating what works about a relationship," Chris told BuzzFeed. "Also, as you become older, your tastes become more sophisticated, and you become more discerning about what you want in life. I think that carries through to the relationships on our show this year."
Sadie: "We love her relationship with Austin [Shane Harper], so we’re going to play that more," Mike shared. "When that character, who is obviously the most heavily armored character you can imagine, is vulnerable, we find that really heartbreaking."
Matty: "There’s going to be a big bomb dropped about Matty that will kind of shake his world up a lot," Mike revealed. "It makes him question a lot of things he’s long assumed about his family, which is very straightlaced. He’s always tried to be the good boy, but he’s going to start acting out a little bit."
And if that's not enough to get you psyched for senior year at PHHS, your favorite misguided guidance counselor, Val Marks, has a pep talk for ya. Check it out, and be sure to watch the Season 4 premiere of "Awkward" on April 15 at 10/9c!
