Lauren Conrad Finally Dishes On Her Engagement: From The Surprise Proposal To The 'Perfect' Ring

Lauren Conrad and William Tell at the Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic in 2012.

Most girls think they're always one step ahead of their boyfriends -- boys can be pretty dumb, after all -- but in Cosmo's January cover story, Lauren Conrad insists that her fiancé of a month-and-a-half, William Tell, managed to catch her completely off-guard when he popped the question.

"I had no idea it was coming," the former "Hills" star tells the mag. "I thought he would wait until he finished law school." She also probably thought he'd be clueless in regards to picking out an engagement ring, but it turns out Tell's got the art mastered, as he did it ALL BY HIMSELF!

"He didn't even ask my friends, which was a bold move," she shares. "He said, 'I know you, and I know what you like.' And I love it. It's perfect."

When asked of how she knew William was the one (you know, aside from his innate ability to tap into her taste in jewelry), she says it was simply a matter of the heart. "When you meet a nice guy who also manages to keep your interest, that is the dream," she gushed about her husband-to-be. Hear that, nice guys of the world? There's hope for you, yet!
