Rob Dyrdek has taught us so many things over the years, from what it means to love a Big man to how the awesomeness of being a kid can live on within a “Fantasy Factory.” However, when it comes to cautionary tales, there is no finer teaching tool than Rob’s crowning glory: the ode to accidents we call “Ridiculousness.” Each week, we’ll pass along the three most valuable life lessons handed down by Rob and his crew in order to keep you safe, sound and off of this show.
Life Lesson #1: Only play Follow The Leader if you can keep up.
Let’s face it: If our friends jumped off a bridge (attached to a bungee cord, of course), we’d probably do the same — FOMO, YOLO and whatnot. However, this only applies when we’re pretty confident we can follow suit, and our friends aren’t camera-wielding A-holes who plan to make us internet famous should our fence-jumping or sad attempt at parkour leave us on the sidewalk clutching our junk in pain. It may seem innocent at first, but remember, copying a seemingly charismatic leader once convinced us all that trucker hats went with everything. Thanks a lot, Ashton Kutcher.
Life Lesson #2: If you weren’t born with wings, don’t try to fly.
Who doesn’t want to feel like Superman once in a while? Who hasn’t thought it would be awesome to soar like a bird? Regardless of how great life could have been if you were born with wings, humans are not meant to fly, so don’t try to overcompensate with homemade devices that would make the Wright Brothers turn over in their graves. You may catch some serious air with your kite belt or, uh, chariot, but you’ll probably also catch some equally serious medical bills in the process.
Life Lesson #3: Skateboarding is not a contact sport.
Skateboarding is cool for so many reasons: You can do it practically anywhere, it’s a great method of transportation and it doesn’t require an embarrassing uniform. One of the less delightful aspects of the sport is the whole weapon-on-wheels thing that can happen when the board gets away from you. The silver lining? If your board goes rogue and hits a stranger, you immediately get a crash course in another sport: self-defense.
