Every aspiring MC would give an arm or a leg (okay...a finger?) to get inside the heads of today's most successful rappers. So, wannabe hip-hop moguls, this is your lucky day! In this "Mac Miller And The Most Dope Family" bonus scene, Mac, Macklemore and Ab-Soul discuss their process and the inspiration behind their most raw musical creations.
"Whatever emotion is in the song, I think that's just, like, the emotion you gotta be in when you make the song," Mac explains in the video below. Up-and-coming artist Ab-Soul agrees that the moments when you're most "numb," as Mac describes, is when the best stripped-down material is made. "That's when it's real to me, and that's when it comes out real," he says. Uh, real deep, guys.
Any great artist must switch up their shtick and step out of their comfort zone in order to evolve, but although Mac's experimented with new musical stylings lately, don't expect him to ever put out anything poppy. "I don't want to be One Direction. I'm not going to sing perfectly," he says. We wouldn't have it any other way.
Check out the chat, and don't miss episodes of "Mac Miller And The Most Dope Family," Tuesday nights at 11:30/10:30c on MTV2.
