The remnants of Seaside Heights' Fun Town Amusement Pier.
An entire week has passed since Hurricane Sandy barreled through the Northeast, and while much has been accomplished in terms of restoring power and clearing the streets of debris, there are many victims of this monstrous storm that are unable to benefit from a quick fix. Thousands of New York and New Jersey residents have suffered irreparable damage to their homes and businesses, the rebuilding of which will demand immeasurable amounts of time and money.
Countless good Samaritans have already stepped up to lend a hand--over the weekend, CNN documented friends, neighbors and perfect strangers alike making donations that ranged from basic necessities such as toothpaste and socks to physical assistance with cleanup and moving the elderly--and MTV is now partnering with the town of Seaside Heights, home of the network's hit series, "Jersey Shore," as well as Architecture for Humanity, a non-profit that provides design and construction services after natural disaster, to help raise funds and aid in the longer term effort to repair and revitalize.
On Thursday, November 15th, MTV will host "Restore the Shore," a LIVE on-air, online and mobile special that will feature the cast of "Jersey Shore" and other celebrity guests. The fundraiser will focus primarily on providing relief to Seaside Heights--the town and its residents have been nothing but gracious over the years, and now it's time to return their kindness and generosity--and be filmed inside our Times Square studio. Stay tuned for more info on the event, and in the meantime, visit MTV Act for immediate ways you can help out.
