Julie's Blog: Why I Gleeked Out On Darren Criss

Darren Criss (Blaine from "Glee") stopped by "The Seven" this week to chat about his hit series, Katy Perry and singing in the shower. I was so excited to meet the outgoing actor--in addition to his amazing talent, I had heard that he was a huge sci-fi geek like me! I wanted to test this rumor, so when I met him (in the makeup room), I asked him just how big of a geek he really is. He told me he goes to Comic-Con (check), collects action figures (check) and is writing a new musical about love in an intergalactic universe called "Starship" (CHECK!). And Darren's most prized geektastic collectible? A signed replica lightsaber used in one of the "Star Wars" movies. I was instantly in love!

When we got into the subject of his "Glee," I, of course, first wanted to know if there was a romantic relationship in store for his character, as well as Chris Colfer’s character. He didn't know for sure, but said the most important message is that Kurt has a support system during a difficult time. And although he couldn’t confirm the rumors that he’s now an “official” cast member, he did say he’d be happy to join the ranks of Lea Michele, Cory Monteith and Amber Riley! (We’d be pretty happy, too.)

Darren has so much going on right now; in addition to the rigorous rehearsal and shooting schedule, he is also putting the finishing touches on the music and lyrics to "Starship," which he is working on with his Starkid production team. He described the project as a melting pot of the action/adventure/fantasy movies we all love. Personally, I cannot wait to see this show--I made him promise that he would come back to "The Seven" and sing some songs from it after it premieres in February!

After our interview, Darren put his own personal touches on Katy Perry's "Teenage Dream,” plus he even stuck around after filming to sing one of his original songs. Don't worry, I included the extra performance below. Tell me what you think about it in the comments!
