‘The Little Mermaid’ Live-Action Adaptation Has Cast Its Lead

This lucky young starlet is heading under the sea.

The upcoming live-action adaptation of “The Little Mermaid” has cast its titular finned princess — and she can't wait to be part of your world.

Variety reports Chloë Grace Moretz has been tapped to star in the film about a mermaid who wants to give up her life in the sea and become human after falling in love with a man whom she saved from drowning.

Moretz confirmed the exciting news on Twitter with an enthusiastic message to fans, saying she can’t wait to dive into this “beautiful experience.”

The script, penned by “Love Actually” writer Richard Curtis, is based on Hans Christian Anderson’s 1837 fairytale “The Little Mermaid," so there’s no telling just how similar it will be to the most-recognized adaptation, Disney’s 1989 animated flick (but hopefully there's still a singing crab involved somehow). Sofia Coppola was previously attached to direct, but left the project earlier this year.

Before she heads under the sea, Moretz can be seen in the upcoming sequel “Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising” alongside Seth Rogen and Zac Efron, as well as the sci-fi thriller “The Fifth Wave.”
