It’s been one week since Ariana Grande released “Focus,” and we’ve subsequently found out a ton of revealing details about the sassy, horn-heavy single. For instance, Ari identified the mystery, spastic man on the chorus (Jamie Foxx!), as well as the inspiration behind her bold gray hair color (her Nonna!). But one thing we’re still itching to find out is just how much “Focus” will inspire Ari’s upcoming album, Moonlight.
Turns out, “Focus” isn’t quite a sign of things to come. In fact, during an interview with U.K. radio station KISS on Thursday (Nov. 5), Ari revealed the rest of her third album will sound nothing like it.
“That’s why I put ‘Focus’ first because it’s the only one that sort of sounds like that,” she explained. “I’ve been putting little snippets on my Snapchat here and there of a couple things, but I can’t say yet because it’s not done.”
The 22-year-old further explained that she’s looking forward to having the next few months to, um, focus on crafting the rest of Moonlight, saying it’ll “outdo” what she’s done so far.
“I’ve been working on it over the past year while I’ve also been on tour. I’m excited for the next couple of months to not only finish the record but to have actual undivided time where I can really just focus on the music,” she said. “I’m really happy with what we’ve done so far, but I just feel like once I finally get the time to really dedicate myself 100 percent I’m going to maybe outdo what we’ve already done. Maybe.”
Another “Focus”-related mystery still up in the air? The issue of Ariana’s hair color. When asked whether the whitish-gray hue she rocked in the video would make a reappearance, she didn’t commit one way or the other.
“Maybe. I think it was a really fun thing for the song, but I worked so hard to get my hair healthy after filming ‘Victorious’… because it had a lot of bleach to get that red color. So I don’t know. Maybe in the future.”
