Ashlee Simpson's back-to-back albums from 2004 and 2005 best represented just how different the rock-inspired singer was from her pop-exclusive big sister, Jessica. Instead of belting out candy-coated love songs, Ashlee opted for spikier subjects, singing "Got stains on my T-shirt and I'm the biggest flirt" in a rebellious chorus on Autobiography's title track -- rebellious in pop music, anyway.
Then, a year after her debut album and reality TV show premiered, she came roaring back with I Am Me, a darker take. It had songs called "Burnin Up" and "Dancing Alone" and "Beautifully Broken" -- and it had "Boyfriend." Released as the album's first single, "Boyfriend" presented a bit of a progression for Ashlee. You could see her singing these words just as easily as you could imagine her saying them to a friend: "I didn't steal your boyfriend."
During the first week of November 2005, I Am Me debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, which means it would've been the top album in the country on this day 10 years ago. We decided that meant it was time to look back and really put the question to the test: How well do you remember "Boyfriend"? Tell us how you did in the comments!
