Louis Tomlinson Says He'll Work With Liam Payne During One Direction's Hiatus

We're celebrating this news with nine 1D songs that prove LiLo are the ultimate writing duo.

A lot of things are about to change in Louis Tomlinson’s life. Starting next year, One Direction will take a much-deserved (but also much-dreaded, in some fans’ eyes) break. But before that, they’ve got a new album, Made In The A.M., to release and promote. And he’ll likely become a dad sometime very soon.

With all those impending adjustments and new responsibilities to handle, it’s understandable that Louis would want to hang on to some familiarity and routine from his 1D days. Which is perhaps why he recently revealed he plans to keep working with his bandmate Liam Payne.

In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, Louis revealed he doesn’t have plans to make his own music, but he’s “very excited” to start his burgeoning career in A&R. He’s basically carving out his own Simon Cowell-inspired path — there’s the new record label he started under Cowell’s Syco label, and then his upcoming stint as a guest judge on the U.K.’s “X Factor,” which will reunite him with Cowell.

“Being my age and being able to be in a position where I can help people out and give opportunities to other people is the most exciting thing to me,” he said of his upcoming plans. “I mean, don’t get me wrong, I do aim to have a couple months’ downtime to see the family, go home, do all that stuff, but yeah, I do hope to be busy, as well.”

One of the ways he apparently plans to keep busy is by continuing to write with Liam.

“I enjoy that, with Liam. But it’s all kind of up in the air at the moment,” he told EW, before adding, “We definitely will. I’m sure we will.”

Directioners, this is great and reassuring news for several reasons. First of all, it reaffirms that there’s no bad blood or ill will among the guys (not that we suspected that, but it’s good to know!). And it also means we’ll get to hear more magic from the capable writing minds of Liam and Louis, who have proved they’re stellar collaborators (they even co-wrote the new 1D song "Home!").

In celebration of that fact, let’s take a look at nine 1D songs from their past two album that Liam and Louis have had a hand in penning:

  1. “Better Than Words” from Midnight Memories

(written by Liam, Louis, Jamie Scott, Julian Bunetta and John Ryan)

Best line: “Every time we touch, I’m all shook up/ You make me wanna (UH), how deep is your love.” That “uh” has given us countless priceless moments during live performances of this song. Gyration central.

  2. “Diana” from Midnight Memories

(written by Liam, Louis, Jamie Scott, Julian Bunetta and John Ryan)

Best line: “Let me be the one to, lift your heart up and save your life/ I don’t think you even realize, baby you’d be saving mine.”

  3. “Little Black Dress” from Midnight Memories

(written by Liam, Louis, Teddy Geiger, Julian Bunetta and John Ryan)

Best line: Umm, how about THE WHOLE EFFIN’ THING?! Louis slays this song. The repeated “I wanna see the way you move for me baby” is particularly joyous.

  4. “Little White Lies” from Midnight Memories

(written by Liam, Louis, Wayne Hector, Ed Drewett, Julian Bunetta and John Ryan)

Best line: This tongue-twister of a lyric: “Let’s stop pretending/ That you don’t know what I don’t know just what we came to do.”

  5. “Midnight Memories” from Midnight Memories (duh)

(written by Liam, Louis, Jamie Scott, Julian Bunetta and John Ryan)

Best line: “Baby you and me, stumbling in the street/ Singing, singing, singing, singing” during the foot-stomping chorus. Honorable mentions: the way Liam seductively whispers “Don’t look back, baby follow me,” and Harry’s yelp during “Baby this is what the night is for-or-or-or, oh oh OHHHH!”

  6. “No Control” from Four

(written by Liam, Louis, Jamie Scott, Julian Bunetta, John Ryan and Ruth-Anne Cunningham)

Best line: “In the heat, where you lay/ I could stay right here and burn in it all day.” HAWT.

  7. “Ready to Run” from Four

(written by Liam, Louis, Jamie Scott, Julian Bunetta and John Ryan)

Best line: “Wherever you are is the place I belong.” Awww.

  8. “Steal My Girl” from Four

(written by Liam, Louis, Julian Bunetta, John Ryan, Wayne Hector and Ed Drewett)

Best line: “Her mum calls me ‘love,’ her dad calls me ‘son,’ alright.” Everybody loves a parent pleaser.

  9. “Through the Dark” from Midnight Memories

(written by Liam, Louis, Jamie Scott and Toby Smith)

Best line: “And I remember you were laughing, so let’s just laugh again,” made even better by Louis’ little voice crack. Adorable, amirite?
