Did Drake Jack D.R.A.M.'s 'Cha Cha' For 'Hotline Bling'?

D.R.A.M. thinks so.

Drake's "Hotline Bling" is well on its way to being the No. 1 song on Billboard's Hot 100 (it's No. 2 right now), and its quickly-beloved video, released last night, instantly became meme fodder.

But one person who didn’t seem to love all the online chatter about the video: D.R.A.M.

The Virginia native popped earlier this year thanks to his breakout track, the carefree, get-up-and-dance anthem "Cha Cha" (which Beyoncé seemed to love). But he feels Aubrey has taken the sound on the record and run with it -- without proper credit, would seem to be the underlying grievance -- for "Hotline Bling."

As for how he feels about those comparisons?

You've probably heard both (many, many times), but in case you haven't -- and, if you have, so you can have another chance to sing along to them, -- here's how they compare.

The beats are certainly similar, though not quite identical, and when Drake dropped the track in July, on Beats 1, it was widely reported as the remix to "Cha Cha."

D.R.A.M. may have been looking back last night, but it seems like he's mostly onto what's next.

Over the weekend, he announced his Gahdamn!, EP due Oct. 23. And yesterday, he released the extended version of "Caretaker," which was originally featured on Donnie Trumpet & The Social Experiment's Surf.
