The Identity Of The Top 5 Richest Superheroes May Surprise You

Being a mutant is a lucrative business.

Superhero status and obscene wealth have always gone hand in hand (Batmobiles don't come cheap, y'all), but this year's list of the richest comic book heroes is more than a collection of billionaire boys with fancy toys.

As it turns out, T'Challa, a.k.a. Black Panther, is the man on top of this year's Time roundup of the superheroes with the highest net worth -- because not even Tony Stark and Bruce Wayne can compete with a giant vault full of Vibranium.

The precious metal used to make Captain America's shield, among other things, is found almost exclusively in Wakanda, the fictional African nation of which T'Challa is king. Thanks to its hefty price point (a cool $10K per gram), Black Panther is worth $90.7 trillion, a number so enormous that you cannot fathom it without burning out your head.

(Told ya.)

The more obvious Stark and Wayne took the #2 and #3 spots, respectively, and Professor Xavier of "X-Men" scored fourth with a respectable $3.5 billion net worth.

But refreshingly, the list isn't entirely male-dominated: Emma Frost, whose financial resources allowed her to singlehandedly float the X-Men their island headquarters, comes in fifth.

The takeaway: If you haven't inherited an estate (or an entire nation) from your folks, your next-best bet at getting rich is to be a telepathic mutant.
