One Direction’s ‘Perfect’ Meets Taylor Swift’s ’Style’ In The Defining Mash-Up Of Our Time

Now you can decide for yourself!

We've been keeping tabs on the new One Direction single, "Perfect," detailing Directioners' utter loss of chill since it dropped on Friday and theorizing that maybe -- just mayyyyybe -- it's a response to Taylor Swift's "Style." Since, you know, Harry Styles and Tay used to date, and it's totally possible that people who write songs would write them about other people who write songs that they used to be romantically involved with.

We've already broken down the two for you, lyric by lyric, so you can judge them side-by-side that way. But Directioner Emily Sachs did us one better and actually mashed the two up in what will surely become the defining document of this saga: "Perfect X Style."

As lyrics from both songs tumble over each other, a seeming narrative begins to unfold. Taylor sets the scene: "Midnight," and Louis' voice comes in immediately after to declare: "I might never be your knight in shining armor." The overlaps continue, and the buildup only gets more intense.

And then, the choruses -- when Harry and Taylor seem to have a conversation to each other about each other. It's a lot to take in, guys.

"But if you like causing trouble in hotel rooms / And if you like having secret little rendezvous," Harry sings at pretty much the same cadence as Taylor when her own words come into focus. "You got that James Dean daydream look in your eye / And I got that red lip, classic thing that you like," she sings. All of this as the music from each seems completely complementary to each other. ???

Can we just get Harry or Tay together for a sit-down? Or maybe even a joint performance of "Perfect X Style" at the Super Bowl Halftime Show? Is that REALLY too much to ask, universe?
