It's been two-and-a-half years since Chance the Rapper released his breakout mixtape, Acid Rap, and now we're finally getting our first concrete evidence of a followup release.
In May, in collaboration with Donnie Trumpet & The Social Experiment, Chano dropped Surf -- an outstanding project, no doubt, but not a solo effort. But over the weekend, he performed a new song during his set and ended, when the music cut off, by saying into the mic: "Third mixtape."
We may have gotten our first official taste of that tape with "Family Matters," which the Chicago native dropped on Tuesday night. It may just be a loosie in support of his tour -- called the Family Matters Tour -- but why not hope it's the sign of things to come? Sometimes, all we have is hope.
The track includes a ton of home footage, from the 22-year-old's younger days to his more recent time on tour and, musically, it flips the sample from Kanye West's The College Dropout favorite "Family Business" to give it a new twist.
This is great, Chance. And now we want more. More. More.
