Koopsta Knicca, a founding member of Three 6 Mafia, has died at the age of 40.
The Memphis rapper, born Robert Cooper Phillips, reportedly suffered an aneurysm last weekend, which left him in critical condition. A post on his personal Instagram account early on Friday morning, Oct. 9, confirmed the news.
"To all who are concerned Robert Cooper Phillips AKA KOOPSTA KNICCA has officially left us all," the message reads. "This is a GREAT LOST to us all. We will continue to keep him alive with his music."
Three 6 Mafia's DJ Paul has been keeping fans updated along the way, tweeting on Oct. 4 that Knicca was undergoing serious surgery, and asking that everyone keep him in their prayers.
"We gota pray harder for @koopstaknicca36 yall!! He had an Aneurysm yesterday in its blood on his brain," Paul shared, updating fans earlier this week. "Dr. said we need a miracle & i believe in those so lets get one for my brother yall!!! Koop is the same age as Lord."
Late on Thursday night, he explained that he'd spoken directly with the doctor who confirmed that Knicca was still fighting for his life. But that was followed by sad news this morning.
Knicca left Three 6 Mafia in 2000 to pursue his solo career, releasing several projects, including 2012's Decepticon: The Return Of The Gods.
This is another tragic lost for the crew, who mourned Lord Infamous' death in 2013. Three 6's Juicy J paid his respects on social media as well.
