Cassie Steele Smells 'Sex & Candy' In Throbbing '90s Cover

Listen to Cassie Steele's new cover of Marcy Playground's "Sex And Candy."

Cassie has a #dark moment at the club in this Marcy Playground cover.

From BANKS' acoustic rendition of Aaliyah's "Are You That Somebody?" to Hoodlem's take on *NSYNC's "Girlfriend," y'all are really killing it with the "TRL"-era pop covers lately. Here's another one to add to that flawless pile: "Sex And Candy," courtesy of Ms. Cassie Steele.

You know, the actress who played Manny Santos alongside Aubrey Graham Drake on Canada's finest export, "Degrassi: The Next Generation"? Well, much like that classic teen drama and Cassie's new single "MAD," "Sex And Candy" goes there.

While the moody, deviant lust of Marcy Playground's 1997 original remains intact, Cassie replaces the low-key alt-rock with a heavy, warbling throb and some classic drum machine. As she growls "I smell sex and Candy here/ Who's that lounging In my chair," it feels like she's going through some "Black Swan" mind-f***ery at the club, and we're living for the visual.

The final result resides in some kind of pop-music paradise between Berlin's "The Metro" and Nicki Minaj's "Beez In The Trap," and we never wanna leave. New Wave Trap Valley squatters' rights, here we come.
