Sam Smith makes a convincing, heart-rending case with “Leave Your Lover.”
When you woke up today, we bet you were all like: “Yeahhh, it’s beautiful out! I’m gonna go do so much and, like, find out the difference between ’Vinyasa’ and ’Bikram’ and finally watch ’True Detective’ and just live my life, yeahhhh.” Well, FORGET IT. Once you watch Sam Smith’s live performance of “Leave Your Lover” at the Woodies on Thursday evening, all you’re gonna be able to handle is weeping over a bowl of cereal and hitting the replay button.
Clad in black and white, the “Money On My Mind” singer bears his soul on the Austin stage, pleading with the object of his unrequited affection to stop everything and take up with him. (Kind of like the more mature, twentysomething’s take on Taylor Swift’s “You Belong With Me.”) Oh my god, that three-month wait we’ve got until his debut, full-length album, In The Lonely Hour, drops on Jun. 17 just got suh-HOOOO much harder to endure. #wah
Speaking of Sam and the Woodies, our boy’s still up for the Cover Woodie at the 2014 mtvU Woodie Awards, which airs tonight at 8 p.m. ET and will feature performances from headlining acts Iggy Azalea, Childish Gambino, and The 1975. So, you know, voting for that category is another you could do, along with weep-eating and watching this clip on endless repeat.
