6 Reasons We’re Obsessed With The 1975

Not musically crushing on The 1975? Here’s why you’re ruh-ruh-ruh-WRONG.

Let’s see, after Man Crush Monday comes… Transformation Tuesday! Erm, considering how we look like the literal opposite of Nicki Minaj in those Cabo bikini photos, let’s just keep the crush trend going with yet another moment of fanatical obsession, this time over the brooding, British alt-rockers of The 1975.

Not only have the MTV Artist To Watch alums had a phenomenal, breakout year (their debut LP, The 1975, debuted at No. 1 on the U.K. Albums Chart), they’re also performing at the 2014 mtvU Woodie Awards on Sunday. (As well as in our dreams every night, with matinée performances Saturday and Sunday.)

But, that’s not all. The 1975 are also nominated for the Breaking Woodie and the Cover Woodie at this Sunday’s ceremony! Uh oh, we can’t take it anymore… Lock up your caps button and adorable Matthew Healy GIFs, ’CAUSE WE’RE ABOUT TO STAN THE F*** OUT.

1.) Did you know that…

…The 1975 are performing at the Woodies? (No, we didn’t just say this. You doin’ OK?)

2.) Did you know that…

…listening to tracks like “The City” or “Settle Down” can be a transcendental experience, sending you spiraling off into a poppy (yet malaise-filled) sonic wonderland dreamed up by the lovechild of Morrissey and The Cure’s Robert Smith?

3.) Did you know that…

…frontman Matthew Healy’s hair really does smell like “Chocolate“? (At least if you read the sparse, emotionally powerful ballad completely literally — which we are.)

4.) Did you know that…

…under the #seriousbusiness veneer, The 1975 totally have a self-aware sense of humor to ’em? (See the “Girls” video.)

5.) Did you know that…

…The 1975 must have a thing for mainstream pop, considering their heart-wrenching rendition of One Direction’sWhat Makes You Beautiful” is nominated for the Cover Woodie? (Everyone else in the world knew it. Everyone else but you.)

6.) Speaking of which, did you know that…

…The 1975 are performing at the Woodies? (Wait, What? You’re saying we just said that literally a few seconds ago? SURE, OK.)
