Katy Perry Unveils Her Super-Heroic ‘Dark Horse’ Single Art

Katy Perry by day, Dark Horse by night!

“I’m coming at you like a dark horse,” sings Katy Perry in her latest single, “Dark Horse.”

Initially, we assumed that the Prism track’s lyric alluded to feeling like an underdog on the rise, coming up from behind when you least expect it. But, after seeing the single artwork that Katy tweeted this morning, it seems like she might’ve been talking about Dark Horse the comic book publisher.

Neigh, could it be?!

The singer looks downright super-heroic in the illustration, which could very well be the cover of a graphic novel about a woman who fights crime with the aid of her enchanted horse helmet. Also love.

Considering the spaced-out trap vibe of the Juicy J-featured track, the art, which appears to be influenced by renowned Czech artist Alphonse Mucha’s elegant and mythologically evocative illustrations, was an apt choice.

Guess we know why Madonna picked Katy to help curate “Art For Freedom” this month!

The piece is actually the work of New York-based illustrator Yao Xiao, who has previously had illustrations of Perry, Miley Cyrus, and Lady Gaga featured in Entertainment Weekly.

BTW, check out Yao’s behind-the-scenes photos detailing her inking and coloring process.

“Make me your Aphrodite,” Perry lilts, alluding to another powerful mythological figure. Looks like she got her wish here.
