James Blake has done the impossible: make an 8-bit version of Destiny’s Child “Bills, Bills, Bills.”
Sorry to use curse words before dinner, but electronic wunderkind James Blake is talented as f***! Like, a total visionary.
I mean, it’s not as though we didn’t already know James was a master remixer (it was, after all, his 2010 remix of Feist’s “Limit To Your Love” that first put him on the mainstream map), but do yourself a favor and listen to his new remix of Destiny’s Child’s “Bills, Bills, Bills” — it’s not only a fantasia of awesome, random, and bizarre sounds, but Blake somehow manages to whip Destiny’s 1999 masterpiece into an almost unrecognizable record.
Listen to James Blake’s “Bills, Bills, Bills” remix after the jump.
A stunning fusion of old-school video game sounds (’sup, Sega!), 8-bit bloops, and altered, twangy, minor-tinged harmonies, James seamlessly adds a whole new level of complexity to Destiny’s Child’s classic R&B single. Who would’ve thought it was possible?
Also, kudos to James for selecting a Destiny’s Child deep cut! Y’know, as opposed to, say, something a tad more current, such as “Survivor” or “Independent Woman.” (Never 4get Destiny’s Child as a foursome. NEVER 4GET.)
