There's a new reason to "kiss me hard before you go"...
You know what we love? We love when an artist covers another performer's track and in the process gives it a whole new layer of meaning. (See: Charli XCX's stunningly stoic, synth cover of "I Want It That Way" by the Backstreet Boys.)
Watch A-1's Ryan Hemsworth-produced "Summertime Sadness" video after the jump.
While Miley Cyrus took her rendition of "Summertime Sadness" in a twanged-out, countrified direction, Hemsworth has transformed Lana's tragic track into a frenetic, trip-hop-esque number. Over the haunting production, A-1 raps verses about his own kind of summertime sadness: inner-city gun violence spurred by the season's heat, the culture created by it, and its effect on the lives of young people.
To elevate the music's more morbid qualities, director David Dutton pairs a sweat-drenched A-1 with an equally glistening Lana-meets-Sky Ferreira-like costar, and the two of them slowly unravel in an otherwise empty, prewar residence. We'd normally get distracted by such amazing real estate porn, but the clip is too intriguing to turn away from.
