X Ambassadors' Brotherly Love Goes Dark In Their 'Unconsolable' Video

X Ambassadors draw inspiration from Imagine Dragons and Alex Da Kid for their intense new video.

X Ambassadors have gone dark with "Unconsolable" before. Last year's video for an earlier version of the Brooklyn band's track found singer Sam Harris dead at the hands of Zosia Mamet, aka Shoshana from "Girls." Shosh, chill!

Now Sam's back with a very F/W '13 beard and a striking resemblance to "Wet Hot American Summer"-era Christopher Meloni, but there's no sweater-fondling here. Instead, the ENDS-directed video ties parallel stories of a pair of brothers across a decade, lost and reunited.

A real brotherly relationship -- Harris' with his brother Casey, the group's keyboardist -- helped inspire the story line, which had input from Imagine Dragons' Dan Reynolds and producer Alex Da Kid. It'll have you texting your siblings to make sure they're OK, right after the track's tension lets go -- like most thrill rides, it ends in relief.

Before that, Harris hurls intense verse lines, reaching into his upper register for the soulful, haunting chorus over forceful drumming and eerie keyboard atmosphere, guitars entering for grit. It's as serious as skinny Christian Bale in an indie drama: Bring popcorn.

The band's Love Song Drug Songs EP is out now.
