Em and Ri get monstrous once again.
Three years after the monumental pop/ hip-hop collision that is "Love The Way You Lie" first hit airwaves, Eminem and Rihanna have teamed up for another round of radio domination. Whereas their former collabo dealt with abusive romantic partnerships, "The Monster" turns inward, detailing the self-destructive nature of an artist's relationship with the music industry and the detrimental effects it can bring. Don't worry, it's still catchy as f***.

As the track opens, RiRi sings the hook: "I'm friends with the monster that's under my bed." According to Em's later verses, this "monster" can take on many forms. Sometimes, it's the media ("I wanted the fame, but not the cover of Newsweek"), and at others it's the "Survival" rapper's own artistic impulses ("'Cause the very thing that I love is killing me, and I can't conquer it"). But whether it's a rock or a hard place, Em's not willing to sacrifice the pleasure to make the pain go away. #ILikeTheWayItHurts
In any case we're sure that you'll have lots of time to ponder the true meaning of this song for yourself. Given the infectiousness of the "What Now" singer's contribution, you'll probably be hearing this track approximately every 23.7 minutes from now until, erm, next June. Enjoy!
