Blood Orange's 'Chamakay' Video Mixes Family Reunions With Old Way Vogueing

Watch Blood Orange's new video for "Chamakay."

Can we be as cool as Blood Orange, like, stat? Thanks.

Almost exactly a month since we heard Blood Orange's stellar, ethereal cover of Drake's "Hold On We're Going Home," the British artist is back with a new video that's all his own. While the song "Chamakay" remains as dreamy as ever thanks to the added vocals of Chairlift's Caroline Polachek, its accompanying visuals remain rooted firmly in reality.

According to his Tumblr, Blood Orange -- aka Dev Hynes, aka Lightspeed Champion -- visits his mother's hometown of Georgetown, Guyana, for the first time ever in the Adam Bainbridge-directed clip. We're even privy to his first time he ever gets to meet his 92-year-old maternal grandfather! (That's gotta be, like, at least $87 in un-gifted birthday card money right there...)

There's also plenty of dance party-of-one moments where Dev shows off some old way vogue-inspired moves (his Tumblr reveals a definite inspiration) that would be right at home in Icona Pop's recent "All Night" video. We don't really have much to add, except LOVE.

Much like Dev's production on Solange's "Losing You," the final "Chamakay" product as a whole speaks to a disorientingly brilliant musical genius. Apparently, we're about to get a full serving of it, too, as soon as his Cupid Deluxe finally gets its 2013 release date.
