Check out Selena Gomez’s “Slow Down” lyric video, then watch her cover Lorde!
Selena Gomez has done so many amazing things in the past 24 hours, and honestly, we’re having a little trouble processing them all! First, Sel pulled a bold pop star move by releasing her “Slow Down” lyric video AFTER the official “Slow Down” video dropped (nice fake out, lady). Then, at last night’s “Stars Dance” Vancouver tour date, Sel surprised her Selenators with a live cover of Lorde’s “Royals.” And did we mention that this all happened the same week she met a fan at the airport and gave her tickets to the “Stars Dance” tour? Chew on THAT.

Admittedly, Selena’s “Slow Down” lyric video seems like the younger, without-a-fake-ID sister to her far sultrier, official clip. Lady wants to get down and rage, only instead of Selena hitting the party scene and slaying the outfit game one look at a time, the lyric video features colorful words bouncing up and down over a well-curated “party montage.” All that said, we’re still not sure why the Best Song Of The Summer VMA nominee opted to unveil the song’s lyric video after the official one (usually it’s the other way around). Maybe she’s trying to lyrically inspire some on-point signage at her shows? Or doing her part to make sure that “Slow Down” gets added to every karaoke book? Obviously we’re fine with either.
Now on to the bikini lover’s stunning Lorde cover: The 16-year-old singer from New Zealand has everybody hooked these days, and Selena Gomez is no exception. Sandwiched in between hits like “Come & Get It” and a cover of Rihanna’s “Birthday Cake,” Selena put a new, slightly more lighthearted spin on Lorde’s dark-pop masterpiece. With the help of her backup singers in three-part harmony, Sel cooed: “And we’ll never be royals/ It don’t run in our blood/ That kind of lux just ain’t for us/ We crave a different kind of buzz.” Sadly, we have a feeling half the audience (the younger half, at least) fully thought “Royals” was a new Selena song, but whatever! If tweens love it, you know it’s a hit.
