Bruno Mars will perform at the 2013 MTV VMAs! Let’s celebrate by looking back at the singer’s best MTV moments!
Hey, is it Aug. 25 yet? No? *Throws something* Just kidding. It’s just that we’re just getting so impatient waiting for the 2013 MTV VMAs to get here already!! Not that we haven’t been steeped in some excellent VMA news to keep our minds occupied. And not to sound like a meme or anything, but one does not simply announce that Justin Timberlake, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga and Kanye West will perform at the 2013 VMAs without some wild-eyed “OH MY GAHHHH” reactions. And now? We just found out that Bruno Mars will perform a highly anticipated new single from his Unorthodox Jukebox album. I think this calls for another round of “OH MY GAHHHHHHH.”
Anyway, Bruno’s performance seems totally fitting, especially given that the “Treasure” singer is also nominated for four VMAs (“Video of the Year,” “Best Pop Video,” and “Best Male Video” for “Locked Out of Heaven,” and “Best Choreography” for “Treasure”). So, what better way is there to celebrate Bruno’s performance than by looking back at our favorite Bruno-MTV moments? Not to sound like a nutso superfan-Stan or anything (too late), but we’ve kinda been following Bruno for a while. Like, we knew him WHEN.
1.) WHEN BRUNO MARS LIVED UNDER THE RADAR: Take, for example, that blessed day in 2010 when Bruno Mars was just getting his start as an under-the-radar MTV PUSH artist. He was all small-time, doe-eyed, and innocent… but he did give us a fun behind-the-scenes look at the filming of his “Just The Way You Are” video. Little did he know, he was about to become, well, a billionaire.

Aw, memories! We loved watching Bruno Mars perform at the 2010 MTV VMAs.
2.) WHEN BRUNO PERFORMED “NOTHING ON YOU” AT THE 2010 VMAS: 2013 might feel like THA YEAR OF BRUNO, but like we said above, dude’s actually been tooling around the industry for-eh-vah. For example, we looooved watching him perform “Nothing On You” at the 2010 VMAs. Yeah, it was 2010! Vintage Bruno! (Also, for the record, you can never go wrong in classic black-and-white playing a piano. #StayingPower)
3.) WHEN BRUNO TALKED ABOUT BEING NAKED: We also had a blast talking to Bruno in 2011 about his guest spot with Eminem and Royce Da 5’9 in their “Lighters” video. Please note how he plays coy when we asked “TELL US MOAR STUFF ABOUT THE VIDEO” questions (because that is our job!) by telling us how he’ll spend most of the video doing handstands and juggling… naked. He may have been joking, but oh well, we can still dream.

4.) WHEN BRUNO MARS PAID TRIBUTE TO AMY WINEHOUSE AT THE 2011 VMAS: Here’s another thing we love about Bruno: Not only is he a hugely talented artist in his own right, but he made us all cry buckets (and dance like crazy — is it possible to dance-cry?) when he performed “Valerie” in tribute to Amy Winehouse at the 2011 VMAs. In fact, we’re still kinda tearing up (and dancing). Can I get a tissue, or…? Some tap shoes? #LoveYouAmy
5.) WHEN BRUNO APPEARED ON MTV’S “THE BIG AND BEST OF 2012”: Right before Bruno dropped Unorthodox Jukebox, he visited MTV’s “The Big And Best Of 2012” to chat with Sway Calloway about his upcoming record. Not only did Bruno reveal his “passion” for ’80s jams, but he also chatted about the story behind his track “Natalie” and the emotions behind “When I Was Your Man” (among many other things).
6.) WHEN BRUNO GAVE US THE INSIDE SCOOP ON UNORTHODOX JUKEBOX: Lastly, it seems totally fitting that Bruno would perform a cut from his Unorthodox Jukebox album at the 2013 VMAs, because, according to him, that song “sets the tone” for Unorthodox Jukebox. When MTV News chatted with the “When I Was Your Man” singer last year right before Unorthodox Jukebox came out, Bruno had a few things to say about the album’s cover: “On Unorthodox Jukebox, there’s a gorilla on the cover. “Gorilla” was the first song we wrote for this album, and that really set the tone for the entire project. It really became the mascot.” #Perfect. Guess we’ll see you and your vintage gear in a couple of weeks, B!
