Miguel’s the Guest Music Supervisor on tonight’s “Washington Heights” episode!
Neo-soul singer Miguel seems like the IDEAL person to decide the soundtrack for MTV’s “Washington Heights.” Much like the show’s creative cast, the “Adorn” singer spent a lot of time honing his craft, deciding his image, and generally just figuring things out. In fact, Miguel spent a chunk of the last decade as a fringe R&B singer, bouncing from label to label before settling with RCA Records and demolishing the Billboard 200 with his sophomore album, Kaleidoscope Dream. Now, Miguel’s pulled in five Grammy nominations (Song Of The Year for “Adorn,” Best R&B Performance, Best R&B Song, Best Urban Contemporary Album, to name a few) and is tonight’s guest music supervisor for “Washington Heights,” airing at 10 p.m. ET on MTV.

In addition to selecting his own “Adorn” to accompany tonight’s “Washington Heights” episode, Miguel’s got a few other Los Angeles-based artists on the roster, too, including Thundercat’s “Is It Love?” and Dom Kennedy’s “My Type of Party.” “What I really wanted to accomplish with this opportunity is to bridge the gap — I thought it would be a good juxtaposition to take young, hungry kids from New York and help tell their stories with young, hungry kids from L.A.,” said Miguel in a chat with the show’s star, JP “Audubon” Perez. “What I really appreciate about this show and this story is that you get to connect on an emotional level because you can identify with what’s driving you guys. You can relate to that. That’s what music’s really doing, is connecting people.”
