There just isn't enough female-fronted pop-punk out there for my liking, ladies and dudes. But thankfully Australian fivesome Tonight Alive is bringing estrogen back! (But not in the Suzanne Somers-ish kind of way.) Tonight Alive HBIC and frontwoman Jenna McDougall is proving that girls can tear up a stage just as well as guys can (if not better), and we've got the exclusive premiere of Tonight Alive's What Are You So Scared Of? as concrete proof.
After Tonight Alive's first two EPs All Shapes And Disguises and Consider This caught the attention of Blink-182's Mark Hoppus, Mark did the band a solid and laid down some vocals on one of What Are You So Scared Of?'s standout tracks, "Thank You & Goodnight." This instant Blink-flavored catchiness is also apparent on the loud-and-proud "Sure As Hell" and hard-hitting "Starlight," while tracks like "Amelia" and "Safe & Sound" show off the band's kinder, gentler side.
Given that both Paramore and Tonight Alive -- who will appear on the Warped Tour this summer -- are lady-fronted pop-punk acts, the comparisons are expected. And why not? Both groups make boy-girl pop-punk gold.
Tonight Alive's What Are You So Scared Of? drops Feb. 14.
