I was kind of expecting a glitter/neon/dance floor explosion when I found out there'd be a video for David Guetta featuring Nicki Minaj's "Turn Me On," because that's what the song feels like IN MY SOUL. But I was like, way off. Instead, David and Nicki take a walk on the really creepy side in their "From Hell"-meets-"Frankenstein" clip for the club banger.
"Turn Me On" confirms something we've all been suspecting: Nicki Minaj is not actually human. The video opens in an old-timey dungeon where a mad scientist (Guetta) builds the rapper out of moving gears, latex and white lipstick (natch). Once Frankenstein Nicki wakes up and explores the neighborhood, the other steam-punk Real Doll townspeople are all, "Wait, who's this new chick?" (Google "Real Doll" at your own risk! NSFW!) They storm the mad scientist's laboratory, strip him down and discover that he, too, is some kind of robot. And that's when the world gets their first glimpse of a computer-animated David Guetta, made entirely of chain mail. YOU CANNOT UNSEE IT.
We're liking this creative departure for the duo. "Turn Me On" features more of Nicki Minaj's singing and much less of her rapping, so it makes sense that the video showcases the calmer side of the Harajuku Barbie. Besides, I don't think there's enough Excedrin in the world to handle another "Stupid Hoe" video.
