Welcome to our fourth installment on "The MTV Iggy Show," where our humble host Heather Holliday satiates our wanderlust with pop stops from around the world. Episode 4 takes us to Sweden, via Kenya, down to Australia and to the wilds of... Minneapolis!
First up is Kenyan-born, Swedish-dwelling Beldina Malaika. While her name may not be on the tip of your tongue yet, you might be familiar with her singing, which has been featured alongside Stevie Wonder and "Community" star/rapper Childish Gambino. Listen to the electro-soul pop of "Here We Go," which Holliday says has a bit of a French beat (that's THREE worldwide stops with one artist, BTW). She also adds, "There's a touch of Daft Punk and Justice in [Beldina's] glitchy sound."
Next, we head down under to Australia for brother-sister duo Angus & Julia Stone. The siblings, whose pretty, folk style is heard in the song "Hold On," have eight EPs and three albums already under their belt. We're going to venture to guess we'll be hearing a lot more of their haunting folk when their song "Love Will Take You" makes its debut on a little soundtrack that you may have heard of. It's called The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1. Ring a bell?
Last but not least, we hit the road and point our compass toward Minneapolis to check out Astronautalis. The smart rapper's new and fourth album, This is Our Science, is a concept/storytelling album, which is based on F. Scott Fitzgerald's short stories. This episode highlights the song "Contrails," which features Tegan Quinn of Tegan and Sara.
Tune in next week, when "The MTV Iggy Show" takes us global pop-hopping to Congo and Chile.
