When we last visited perpetually dancing Jason Derülo, the R&B/pop singer was engaging in post-club full-scale dance routines in some remote warehouse. Now the king of the club jams has returned with "Pick Up the Pieces," a remorseful love song couched in a club anthem.
Over skittering drums and a female R&B vocal of "Hey na na na na," the crooner laments for an ex, hoping to win her back. "Can we forget the past?" Derülo sings. "I miss you/I mean it/And if love is made of glass/Can we pick up the pieces?" The beat is standard club fare, but Derülo's blend of R&B slow jam and anthemic club-friendly sounds have led fans of both romantic ballads and club hits to embrace the singer.
"Pick Up the Pieces" will appear on Derülo's second album, Future History, out Sept. 27 via Warner Bros.
