I wonder if the fact that both Bruno Mars and Lil Wayne are performing at the 2011 VMAs inspired them to collaborate on Wayne's new song "Mirror." VMA besties foreva!!!! (Hey, it could happen. Katy Perry met husband Russell Brand at the VMAs!)
Slated to appear on the deluxe edition of Lil Wayne's forthcoming Tha Carter iV album "Mirror" is an eerie and somber tune which examines the harsh truth of reality. Backed by a simple track that is later adorned with choir voices, Weezy gets straight up intimate on our asses: "I see the truth in your lies/I see nobody by your side/But I'm with you when you're all alone/And you correct me when I'm looking wrong/I see the guilt beneath the shame/I see your soul through your window pane/I see the scars that remain/I see Wayne."
Bruno Mars pops in and delivers the emotional hook, further enunciating the boys' struggle with their perception of themselves versus reality. Bruno sings, "Mirror on the wall/Here we are again/Through my rise and fall/You've been my only friend/You told me that they can understand the man I am/So why are we here talking to each other again?"
Sounds like these boys are dealing with some demons. But on the bright side, tons of female fans will hear this song, melt, and likely jump at the chance to alleviate some of the "pain" these two are going through. Well played, guys.
Tha Carter IV will be officially released at midnight on August 29 following Lil Wayne's performance at the 2011 Video Music Awards.
