Watching your old band release a killer new single without you must be kinda like watching an ex-boyfriend go on to marry a Victoria's Secret model.
Wait, who married a Victoria's Secret model? What the hell are we talking about here? Directly and indirectly, Paramore.
In December, Paramore announced the dramatic departure of its founding members Zac and Josh Farro, leaving remaining members Hayley Williams, Taylor York and Jeremy Davis to pick up the pieces. But in what is clearly a seamless transition from five to three, the remaining trio just released their new single "Monster," which will be released as a single on iTunes tomorrow and is slated to appear on the Transformers: Dark Side Moon soundtrack.
For fans who were a little worried Paramore might go down a safer pop route after the success of tunes like "Airplanes," the assertive, more aggressive vibe of "Monster" should allay any of those fears. While Hayley's voice still possesses that haunting lilt so clearly displayed on pop records like "The Only Exception," there's a markedly angrier and grittier undertone to everything she sings.
Call us drama fiends, but we can't help but think that the unnamed criminals she's singing to here are the Farro brothers as Hayley croons, "You were my conscience, so solid, now you're like water... I'm not the villain, despite what you're always preaching." A possible reference to the bitter feelings of betrayal and hurt surrounding the Farro brothers' departure? Probably. But, one thing IS for sure -- a pissed-off Paramore sounds pretty damn good to us.
