T-Pain Retires From Auto-Tune... For Now

Check the sky for flying pigs. T-Pain, who more than anyone popularized the use of Auto-Tune in hip-hop and R&B, has sworn off the popular voice-modulating program. "I vow right here, right now, to never use Auto-Tune again," the singer said in a statement that we still don't necessarily fully believe. "I'm onto something that I think is bigger and better called The T-Pain Effect." We're guessing the "T-Pain Effect" is making an announcement that sounds surprising and career-changing, but probably won't be too much different than the sound you've perfected these past seven years.

But who knows. Maybe the T-Pain Effect, whatever it turns out to be, will be the next vanguard of music -- an exemplar of what can be done when creativity meets technology. Or maybe it'll just sound like a more irritating version of Auto-Tune. Either way, a stripper or booty will probably be involved in the Effect's first song.

In unrelated news, Jay-Z, who is currently preparing for Watch the Throne with Kanye West, announced his retirement from rapping in 2003.

Watch T-Pain's latest video, "Best Love Song," for a look at the T-Pain that was.
