New Song: Theophilus London, 'Last Name London'

After numerous EPs and mixtapes, we finally have the official first single from New York MC Theophilus London's debut LP, Timez Are Weird These Days. "Last Name London," like most of London's work, blends hip-hop with New Wave, post-punk and electro, creating a sound that's simultaneously retro and forward-thinking.

While some MCs name-check their musical forefathers, London is quick to reference himself on the hook, a reminder of who he is and how to pronounce his name. We know some of you were saying Theo-philus instead of The-ah-philus. It's cool. Lyrically, the song is a hodgepodge of standard rapper hubris, catch-up introduction and... getting naked on Skype. Trust us: It makes sense in context.

Timez Are Weird These Days, produced by Ariel Rechstshaid (MURS), Jokke of Teddybears, Dave Sitek of TV on the Radio and John Hill (Santigold), was recorded over the past year in New York, Los Angeles and Stockholm and will be released July 19.

And if you missed it the first time, you can catch London's "Live in NYC" performance, showcasing songs from the rapper's Lovers Holiday EP.
